A HEARTBROKEN man who suffered a brain injury said he is trying to get his beloved assistance dog Thor back from police after an alleged dog attack.

Ian Walker, from Abberley, claimed Thor, a 20-month-old Dogue de Bordeaux puppy was taken from him by West Mercia Police after an incident in Rubery Farm Foods' car park.

Mr Walker claimed a cocker spaniel first attacked Thor but a woman ended up needing hospital treatment, according to police, which led to officers seizing the dog.

He told the Worcester News: “Thor is my companion he keeps me safe.

“I have my brain injury and life has been even harder recently because Thor is not there.

“I was trying to keep his training up and he’d have lost all of that when he comes back.

“I’m the one that’s without the dog and I just want to know what’s happening."

Mr Walker said he was unaware of the woman's injury and, when asked, he said she told him she was alright.

He added he sustained injuries to his hand during the incident but did not complain.

Mr Walker, who suffered a brain injury after coming off his motorbike in 2017, said he stopped in the car park and undid Thor’s seatbelt to put the dog's jacket on.

He further claims he was distracted while talking to a woman who had a cocker spaniel and seconds later Thor jumped out the back of his car and went around to them.

He claimed the spaniel had a go at Thor, and his 20-month-old dog got the smaller dog around the harness, holding on to it.

Mr Walker said after he had got hold of Thor, he let go, and after telling him off he picked Thor up and put him in the back of the car.

He added he lost sight of the woman and the spaniel and then left.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said officers were called to Farm Foods at around 6.10pm on April 27 following a report a woman had been bitten by a dog outside of the store.

The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with injuries.

The dog was seized by officers on Wednesday, May 1 and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Mr Walker said after Thor was taken, he was under the assumption he would get him back, but he has not been able to contact the police for an update.
