Finns Party MP Riikka Slunga-Poutsalo confirmed on Friday that her adult son has committed an aggravated drug offence.
Following a report from tabloid paper Iltalehti that her son was facing criminal charges in Southwest Finland District Court, Slunga-Poutsalo posted a message on Twitter confirming the news on Friday morning.
"My son has committed an aggravated drug offence. He has done his best to shoulder his responsibilities and to [help] investigation of the crimes. He is also trying to break his addiction and change his direction upwards," Slunga-Poutsalo's first tweet read.
"I will do my best to give my son another chance and I hope others will do the same," a second tweet continued.
Slunga-Poutsalo's son, who is 27 years old, was charged with an aggravated drug offence, among other crimes at Southwest Finland District Court last Friday.
According to court documents, the man is suspected of smuggling more than one kilogram of amphetamine and smaller quantities of other drugs into Finland from the Netherlands during 2012 and 2020 and sold them online.
The suspect admitted during the pretrial investigation that he had ordered the drugs from the Netherlands and sold them.
The prosecutor has demanded the suspect serve a roughly six year prison term.
