Household electricity bills have grown by nearly 20 percent in one year, Finland’s Energy Market Authority said on Monday. Cold winters and increased fuel prices are partially to blame.

Domestic electricity bills rose in Finland by 18 percent in 2010. For those who used electricity for heating, the figure stands at 20 percent.

Power disruptions and a rise in electricity transmission costs have played a prominent part in the price jump. A surge in demand for electricity and an increase in energy tax were also responsible for the increased prices.
