Capital’s museums welcome Guggenheim

Museums in the capital area mostly approve of the idea that a Guggenheim museum could open in Helsinki, according to a YLE survey. However, museums are concerned about possible competition over visitors and funding.

YLE has polled the Helsinki metropolitan area’s 15 biggest museums, asking how they would feel about a Guggenheim opening in their midst.

All museums believed that a Guggenheim museum would attract more tourists to Helsinki and could inspire Finns to visit other museums more.

The new museum could also bring more varied art offerings to Finland, according to the poll answers, and Finnish art could achieve higher international visibility through the worldwide Guggenheim network.
