Researchers in Tampere, Turku and Helsinki are currently selecting participants for the multi-year oral immunotherapy study.

The study will focus on how immunotherapy, which entails giving sufferers tiny amounts of allergens to build up tolerance, affects asthma. Many children who are allergic to pollen risk developing asthma.

Oral immunotherapy is currently available for treating hay fever in adults and children above five years of age.

The study is expected to produce results in five years.
