The Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council(YTV)says the light haze detactable in the air over the region is probably due to brush fires and scorching in Russia.
Parts of south east Finland have also reported haze. Monitoring stations of the Finnish Meteorological Institute reported a higher incidence of small airborne particles on Friday.
Street dust, however, remains a big problem affecting the air quality of many Finnish cities.
Last August a blanket of smoke from fires across the border seriously weakened air quality over large parts of southern Finland.
