RoPS win cup, head into Europe

Football fans in Lapland can look forward to European competition in 2014 after Rovaniemi Palloseura (RoPS) won the Finnish Cup final 2-1 against the Kuopio team KuPS on Saturday night in Helsinki.

RoPS won their second-ever Finnish Cup in front of 4,032 fans at Töölö's Sonera Stadium on Saturday. Aleksandr Kokko scored both goals including a penalty to give RoPS the win.

Their reward is a 30,000 cash prize, a trophy and a place in the 2014-15 Europa League. It will be the Laplanders' first foray into European competition since 1990.
