Finnish driving game app hits 100-million download mark

Aspiring racer Newton Bill is unlikely to break any speed records as his car chugs up a series of hills, but the game he stars in, Hill Climb Racer, is on track to become another worldwide success for the Finnish games industry.

Oulu-based developers Fingersoft announced that players in the USA, India, Germany, Russia and Spain have made the most downloads of the free driving game.

The success comes just a year after its launch on the Android platform, during which time Hill Climb Racing has been regularly topping the download charts.  An Apple iOS version, released a month later, has seen similar popularity.

Toni Fingeroos, founder and CEO of Fingersoft, claims Hill Climb Racing is one of the best-rated mobile games in the world. "We have between four and six million people playing Hill Climb Racing every day. HCR currently has 4.7 stars out of five in Google Play with over 810,000 reviews," says Fingerroos.

In common with the Finnish gaming phenomenon Angry Birds, Hill Climb Racing is a ‘physics-based’ game, meaning that objects move, fall or bump into each other in the same way they would in the real world.
