The SDP continues its downward spiral after their leadership change in May. Their support percentage of 13.8 is historically low, falling by a full percentage point from last month.
Female supporters in particular have taken a hike from the SDP since Antti Rinne took over as party chair and finance minister from Jutta Urpilainen. Rinne himself says he trusts perseverance.
“It is with hard, solid, steady work and by regaining peoples’ trust that the SDP will rise again,” Rinne says. Next year’s government budget session is the party’s next big chance.
”The session will clearly see families with children being compensated to the tune of 70 million euros after the last child benefit cuts, and this time the money will reach the right people. That is the goal of the SDP, at any rate,” Rinne said.
Small parties show small changes
Opposition party Left Alliance figures have remained the same for the past month at 9.3 percent, while Green League backing fell by a marginal 0.2 percent.
The smaller parties, Christian Democrats and the Swedish People’s Party, also showed minimal lessening in their support – the former by 0.4 percent and the latter by three tenths of a percent.
Research company Taloustutkimus interviewed 2,444 people in total, of whom about two-thirds divulged their party affiliations. The interviews were conducted between July 1 and 30.
July is the most common summer holiday month in Finland, so representatives of various demographics were harder than usual to reach.
The measurements concerning the largest parties have a margin of error of ±1.6 percent.
