On Friday evening the Espoo Cultural Centre will host the “pay what you want” spectacle.
“The cheapest pre-sale ticket is one euro, but the upper price limit is not defined. Now it's up to spectators to make their own reckoning of how much they want to pay,” says executive producer Riitta Aittokallio.
The average price for pre-sold tickets is about four euros. Normally, tickets for the Simo Heiskanen devised performance papulaBOX sell for between 12-18 euros.
Aittokallio, says that the reduced income won’t do any harm for now, as the trick is to try to lure new audiences.
“We would like to get new viewers to the theatre, but for some reason the threshold has been too high. This is also as a way to get to explore the wider dance culture,” says Aittokallio.
The theatre would like to offer all families equal access to high-quality culture for children.
Similar pay-what-you-want events are organised around the world at theatres, restaurants and museums.
More than half of the tickets for Glims & Gloms’ Friday night performance have been reserved but there’s still room for more in the stands.
The 40-minute-long work is presented in Espoo Cultural Centre and is suitable for viewers over three years old.
