Police in Central Finland have found a fingerprint of Teemu Torssonen, the former Jyväskylä city councillor suspected of trying to kill Finns Party aide Pekka Kataja, at the victim's apartment, according to news outlet MTV.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced at the beginning of September that it had remanded two men into custody in connection with the mid-July attack -- Torssonen and Tero Ala-Tuuhonen. However, Ala-Tuuhonen is no a longer suspect in the case, which is being investigated as attempted manslaughter.
According to an MTV report issued Monday, the fingerprint found at Kataja's apartment physically linked Torssonen to the incident. But the outlet noted that it was not possible to draw a decisive conclusion that Torssonen was one of Kataja's attackers.
Torssonen expelled
In last year’s parliamentary election, Kataja had reportedly prevented Torssonen from running as a Finns Party candidate.
The decision to block his candidacy was made by the party’s Central Finland chapter. Torssonen was subsequently expelled from the Finns Party last May.
During the attack at his home in Jämsä, Central Finland, Kataja, who is an aide to Finns Party MP Jouni Kotiaho, reportedly suffered a cracked skull, mild cerebral haemorrhaging and three broken ribs.
