Arguably the worst iteration of Google Chat to date. Near constant issues just sending basic text messages ( taking 30+ seconds to send simple messages, if at all ). Having the video call button directly next to the options drop-down. If that weren't bad enough, accidental calls have to be canceled through the phones notifications instead of from within the app itself just seems like a terrible design decision.

There's never useful info under "What's New", so I dont know what I get when I tap Update. It always says "Current version, for Google Workspace Customers only, includes direct messages, group chats, and platform integration with Google Apps". They said they'll review it, but nothing's changed. If the above and the app size doesn't bother you, then download this instead of enabling it in Gmail for easier share sheets, separated notifications, and separated Focus Mode and Do Not Disturb settings.

UPDATE (3/22/24) The new Google Chat is AWESOME! Thanks for making the necessary changes Google! Original Review: It's so close but has one fatal flaw. It doesn't allow you to delete or edit entries like slack, Whatsapp, and Microsoft teams do. That's a major, major miss and prevents me from using this as my primary cross platform communication tool with friends and family. To make matters worse, I think it's a business decision because I understand the corporate version has this feature.
