About this movie

In this prequel to The Hunger Games, a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) is the last hope for the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. Snow reluctantly takes an assignment to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray's charm captivates Panem's audience, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow races against time to survive - and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.

Even for a movie about children being forced to fight for survival by their government, this movie required too much suspension of disbelief. Inexplicable choices by the characters were key to keeping the plot moving. A couple of interesting characters and we didn't stop the movie early so not a complete loss... but close.

pretty mediocre compared to the rest of the series. there are some good performances but the cast is bloated and the plot doesn't make much sense. 2 hours and 40 minutes!

Really, a pretty cool story and clever tie ins. Likeable, complex characters. Good action, drama, tragic moments. The elements are here for a GREAT movie - but just feels a little thin, and a confusing ending. Probably needed to be two parts to develop proper, and not have to crash into the conclusion. Overall a quite enjoyable movie.
