Getting started with My Ad Centre

In this article

What is My Ad Centre?

My Ad Centre gives you greater control of the ads that you see on Google services, like Search, YouTube and Discover, by giving you options for customising ads and managing your privacy settings – either directly from ads that you see or in the My Ad Centre itself.

Control whether you see personalised ads

In My Ad Centre, you can easily control whether or not Google will show you personalised ads. You can turn on or off personalised ads on Google services at any time.

When you turn on personalised ads, your ads may seem more relevant because your info and the choices that you’ve made in My Ad Centre may be used to help find ads for products and brands that interest you.

When you turn off personalised ads, Google won't use the info or activity saved to your Google Account or your choices in My Ad Centre to show you ads. Instead, the ads that you see will be contextual – that is, they will be based on general factors like the time of day or the topic of the video, website or app that you're viewing.

Customise ad topics and brands

With My Ad Centre, you can customise your ads by choosing the topics and brands that you’d like to get more or fewer ads about. By customising your ads, you have greater control of the kinds of ads that you see on Google services, like Search and YouTube.

When you customise your ad, you are influencing how Google determines what ads to show you. If you tell Google that you’d like to see more ads about hiking and see fewer ads about jewellery, you may start to see more ads related to the outdoors  and fewer ones related to necklaces.

Customising your ads doesn't block ad topics or brands
Customising your ads doesn't mean you'll see more or fewer ads overall. When you tell Google that you want to see fewer ads about a topic or brand, you’ll start to see fewer ads about that topic or brand soon. In some instances, however, you still might see an ad about that topic or brand. For example, if you wanted to see fewer ads about jewellery, but use Google Search to look for earrings, you may see ads for earrings.

You can customise your ads in the My Ad Centre Customise ads tab or directly on the ads that you see on some Google services.
