At the very end of 2008, a couple of weeks before the new season started, we
reported that Amazon.com was already beginning to take pre-orders for
24 - Season 7 on DVD...and that a Blu-ray Disc version of the same season was also listed there, but that pre-orders weren't being taken at that time. Neither listing showed a release date, and that's still the case there for the 7th Season on both the
DVD and
Blu-ray. But now our sources have additional information, including a date.
Both the standard DVD and high defintion Blu-ray Disc releases of
24 - Season 7 will be released by Fox Home Entertainment, our trustworthy sources tell us, on
May 19th. That date could be subject to change (as all release dates are), but our contacts say that it's a pretty firm schedule at this time. Both versions will be on 6 discs, and includes bonus material such as Audio Commentary on 12 of the twenty-four episodes, Deleted Scenes (with optional commentary), and Featurettes about
24's Villians, The Ambush and The Fumicite Festival Presents the Music of
24.
The DVD will have anamorphic widescreen video, and audio in English 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish Dolby Surround and Portuguese Dolby Surround. Subtitles are in English, French and Spanish. According to Amazon, the pricing is $59.98 SRP. The Blu-ray release will have much the same specs, except for video in 1080 high defintion and a primary soundtrack in English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio. Although cost hasn't been revealed to us yet, we're told to expect the list price of the BD version to be roughly twenty dollars more than the DVD (that's not written in stone yet, however). Amazon is showing some temp art, taken from a promotional campaign, but the actual retail package art for the North American release hasn't been made available yet. Stay tuned for that, and for other updates, just as soon as we get them!
