PG-13 105 minutes

Martians land on Earth, say ''We come in peace,'' then kill the entire welcoming committee, then say it was a horrible mistake, then kill everyone in Congress. At that point the survivors catch on and run for their lives, and eventually the Martians are destroyed. There are takeoffs galore on science fiction movies through the ages.

VIOLENCE Humans are vaporized, comically, by ray gun. When the Martians die, their heads turn into pretty green Jell-O.

SEX None. Even the Playboy centerfold's erogenous zones are covered.

PROFANITY None.

For Which Children?

AGES 3-7 These are the only moviegoers who might be upset by the neat, clean violence or the sight of Ms. Parker's head on her dog's body.

AGES 8 and up It has something for all age groups, from the adults' stupidity to teen-age video game players' proficiency with real space weapons. ANITA GATES
