Kevin Spacey gives the gravity of Shakespearean drama to every phrase, singing his lines with the most beautifully figured American enunciation. The high caliber acting is not limited to him, every actor involved in the production gives a deep richness to every scene.
I have not found this series easy viewing, it is not that it has shudder value, thankfully, but it is deep and disturbing, thankfully with the safety of a long lense, the drama seems removed, thankfully yet relevant and the relevance for now in election year, really sets in strong for Season 4.
There is a strange comfort with this Season 4, it is gruesome but it offers a sigh of relief with a deconstruction of reason that begins and ends with a couple, they could be a suburban couple in any one of millions and millions of homes and the magic of that poignancy may be subtle and unclear until the final episode, but hey, this is contemporary allegory at it's most sophisticated height... How many people have you heard sounding off about pushing the button because that is the answer and no, that is not a spoiler, not at all, but it's the thought I am left with after one of the most perfectly crafted closures of a Series that may ever be dramatised.
As ever, taut scripts and superb performances - characters portrayed unnervingly credible. Inevitably thoughts are provoked about what really goes on behind the scenes in American politics, how great the gap between public facade and reality. Here Underwood continues to make asides to the camera, exposing his real intentions - never more chillingly than at the close of this brilliant fourth season.
Someone so extreme elected to the White House? As though that could ever be!
Thirteen episodes of varying length. No extras.
typical American mini series ploy they just don't know when to end them, was so looking forward to seeing the slime ball AKA Doug Stamper get his due as well.
Also its almost a plot afterthought that both Underwood and Stamper are murderers, should be more of this.
The acting is top notch as should be with the likes of Spacey and Wright, some of the plot lines go way off base especially the gratuitous ending to season 4
Ah well guess i will have to hope and wait that season 5 really is the final!
For the art imitates life House of Cards you see Frank running for president again with strained relations with his wife . Frank maneuvers through the obstacles that come his way with ruthless contempt .The acting is superb as well as the stories and extra casting .It is so great that companies like Netflix and Amazon make their own TV and films independent of Hollywood instead of us having to put up with the Fluff of modern Hollywood .
It`s intriguing, but not as fascinating and thrilling as the start...
