Scottish former marine shot by pirate on the Amazon

A former Royal Marine says he managed to fight off pirates who shot him twice during an expedition along the Amazon.

John Bathgate from Midlothian says he and team mate Ian "Yan" Roberts disarmed two assailants and paddled to the safety of a Peruvian village.

The pair were attempting a charity challenge, to travel 5,128km along the Amazon River, when the attack happened.
