Melanie C: I thought ‘Do I look like a pop star?’

Spice Girls member Melanie C says she struggled with her mental health and body image when she first joined the band.

“I’m surprised you can do a backflip with thighs like that.” Mel tells Nihal Arthanayake how a comment made about her appearance had a direct impact on her confidence and self-image.

She explained that as a young artist in the 90s she thought “Do I look how I need to look to be a pop star?”

But she added “If I don't fit this mould, then I have to make myself fit it.”
