Counties have been permitted to field two overseas players in all competitions since 2021, following the ending of Kolpak registrations.
Kolpak contracts were signed by foreign players, using a European Court ruling to avoid counting against the quota of one overseas player per club. Following the UK's exit from the European Union, Kolpak registrations were terminated at the end of the 2020 season, but some Kolpak players remain in county cricket as overseas players.
Players who moved counties or retired during the 2021 season are included on the 2021 list. A list of players who are unavailable for the One-Day Cup as they have been selected for The Hundred can be found here. Not included are players signed on short-term arrangements purely for non-competitive friendly matches.
Other news: Turner captained n the T20 Blast, replacing last season's overseas signing Cameron Bancroft. Head coach James Franklin left the club on 11 September with assistant coach Neil Killeen taking over until the end of the season.
Other news: Former Australia limited-overs international paceman Mick Lewis came in as bowling coach to replace Andre Nel, who left his role as assistant coach after three seasons with the club.
GLAMORGAN

Other news: David Lloyd replaced Chris Cooke as Championship and T20 Blast captain, with Kiran Carlson becoming his deputy but remaining One-Day Cup captain.
GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Overseas players: Marcus Harris (Australia), Zafar Gohar (Pakistan, pay-by-appearance to end of July, full-time afterwards), Naseem Shah (Pakistan, until end of T20 Blast group stage), Glenn Phillips (New Zealand, until July, mostly for T20), Mohammad Amir (Pakistan, 28 April-15 May and from 16 June for T20)
Other news: Batting coach Michael Yardy left to rejoin Sussex as academy director, and was replaced by former Essex captain Ryan ten Doeschate. Joe Denly captained the side in the One-Day Cup.
LANCASHIRE
Overseas players: Dane Vilas (South Africa), Tim David (Singapore/Australia, for T20), Hasan Ali (Pakistan, until 22 May), Will Williams (New Zealand, 11 June-6 July), Washington Sundar (India, for Championship and One-Day Cup, July and August)
Other news: Head coach Stuart Law and his assistant Nic Pothas left at the end of the 2021 season. Alan Coleman was appointed to a new "men's performance cricket" role, while Richard Johnson returned from Surrey as first-team coach. Mark Ramprakash was named consultant batting coach to the end of the season with Owais Shah coming in as white-ball batting coach and ex-Surrey seamer Jade Dernbach as consultant fast bowling coach. Tim Murtagh has taken the role of club captain, and took over as skipper for the Championship and One-Day Cup after Peter Handscomb's overseas deal was curtailed, while Stevie Eskinazi replaced Eoin Morgan as T20 skipper.
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Overseas players: Will Young (New Zealand, for Championship and One-Day Cup), Jimmy Neesham (New Zealand, for T20), Matt Kelly (Australia, until June), Chris Lynn (Australia, for T20), Ryan Rickleton (South Africa, for County Championship from 25 June-15 July), Lizaad Williams (South Africa, from 5 September)
Other news: Head coach David Ripley stepped down from his current role at the end of the 2021 season to take up a new position within the club, and was replaced by his assistant John Sadler. Graeme White will combine playing in the T20 Blast with coaching the second XI, as well as being the club's lead fielding and spin bowling coach, while Ben Smith was appointed batting coach. Ricardo Vasconcelos replaced Adam Rossington as County Championship captain, but stepped down after eight games with Will Young taking the role for the rest of the season. T20 skipper Josh Cobb was named as One-Day Cup captain in place of Vasconcelos, but was then drafted into The Hundred, so Young also skippered the 50-over side.
Other news: Haseeb Hameed succeeded the retired Trego as One-Day Cup captain. Christian captained the T20 Blast side after Stephen Mullaney filled in for him last season.
Other news: Championship captain Tom Abell replaced Lewis Gregory as T20 captain, while Ben Green skippered the One-Day Cup side. Head of talent pathway Steve Snell left to rejoin Gloucestershire as performance director. Jim Troughton, who held a role as batting consultant in 2021, took up a coaching role with Surrey.
Other news: Head coach Vikram Solanki left for a role in the IPL, while assistant coach Richard Johnson returned to Middlesex. Gareth Batty became interim head coach for the season after retiring from playing, assisted by Azhar Mahmood (until the end of July) ,Yasir Arafat (as a bowling consultant in the One-Day Cup) and Jim Troughton. Jordan rejoined the county as T20 captain, replacing Batty.
Overseas players: Azhar Ali (Pakistan, for County Championship & One-Day Cup), Colin Munro (New Zealand, for T20), Dwayne Bravo (West Indies, for T20), Mohammad Hasnain (Pakistan, for County Championship from 10 July)
Other news: Yorkshire sacked 16 members of staff after a report found former player Azeem Rafiq was a victim of "racial harassment and bullying". Among those who departed were director of cricket Martyn Moxon, head coach Andrew Gale and his entire coaching team.
Former West Indies all-rounder Ottis Gibson took over as head coach, reporting to former Yorkshire captain Darren Gough, who was appointed interim managing director of cricket until the end of the 2022 season. Alistair Maiden and Tom Smith arrived from Leicestershire as assistant and second XI coach respectively, while former England seamer Kabir Ali took an assistant coach role.
