  3. Rangers support women's game after criticism of Easdonpublished at 13:02 27 March

    Ava Easdon savesImage source, SNS

Rangers say they are "unwavering in our desire to further the women's game" and "will support all players in challenging those who hold extremely outdated and foul views of women's football".

Partick Thistle goalkeeper Ava Easdon was the target of online abuse following Sunday's SWPL Cup final defeat to Rangers, including from Joey Barton.

Easdon's father Lex hit back at Barton for trying to "belittle and bully" his daughter after the former Manchester City and Rangers player mocked Easdon on X for her role in Rangers' opening goal.

Barton has since responded to Easdon’s father and Rangers player Nicola Docherty on the social media platform, using homophobic comments to describe the women’s game.

Rangers released the following statement on their website: “Rangers FC has been made aware of discriminatory and misogynistic comments regarding the women’s game following Sunday’s cup final.

“As a club, we stand together against these homophobic and disgraceful slurs in the strongest possible terms.

“We are unwavering in our desire to further the women’s game across the country which goes from strength to strength, and will support all players in challenging those who hold extremely outdated and foul views of women’s football.”

    Rangers fan's voice graphic

I cannot wait for club football to return. The international break seems to have gone on forever now, but it has allowed several Rangers players to rest before the three pre-split games.

Unfortunately, Ridvan Yilmaz looks to have picked up an injury playing for Turkey and could be a doubt for Saturday against Hibs – I hope he’s fit and ready to play as he’s been in excellent form since the winter break.

He’s been like a new signing in many ways and we can now see why the outlay was spent to bring him in from Besiktas.

Hibs will cause us some issues and even though Martin Boyle is out, their front four seem to be combining well and they took Livingston apart last time out, so we will have to be on our guard defensively to make sure there is no repeat of the Motherwell defeat.

The three points are all that matters, with performance very much secondary to the result. We have to make sure we go back to the top of the league before Celtic play on Sunday. It’s getting to the stage where there is no real room for error.

It’s basically an eight-game shootout for the title now, and it’s exciting - we’ve not had a title race like this for a long time. Saturday cannot come quick enough for it to resume.

  9. Hearts want answers over 'extremely disappointing' Tynecastle badge rowpublished at 20:29 24 March

Hearts have demanded answers from the SWPL after photos showing a Rangers badge stuck over a Hearts one at Tynecastle at the SWPL Cup final.

Images shared on social media showed the Rangers club crest stuck over the top of the Hearts badge in the home dressing room.

Rangers faced Partick Thistle in the final at Tynecastle on Sunday, where they won 4-1.

But Hearts said in a statement that management of the stadium was the responsibility of the SWPL for the game, not theirs - and described the situation as "extremely disappointing".

"Although the club hands over the running of the stadium on the day to the competition organisers - the SWPL - we were involved with pre-match planning," the club said, external.

"We would therefore like to assure our supporters that we did not approve any request for dressing room branding in either dressing room for either club involved.

"It is extremely disappointing to learn that our wishes were disregarded. How this came to be is a matter for the SWPL and Rangers to sort, but needless to say no explanation will be satisfactory in our eyes or the eyes of our fans.

"Nevertheless, we will demand answers to ensure that our club crest is never defaced again.

"It is also regrettable that this action has taken away the focus from what was a successful cup final and another opportunity to grow women’s football in Scotland."

Ridvan Yilmaz had been handed a rare start for Turkey in Friday's friendly

Rangers manager Philippe Clement will be anxiously awaiting news of Ridvan Yilmaz after the left-back was forced off after only 27 minutes of Turkey's 1-0 friendly defeat in Hungary.

The 22-year-old, who has recently deposed Croatia's Borna Barisic as first-choice under the Belgian, had been handed his seventh cap and first international start in two years but came off with an upper thigh injury.

Yilmaz was later sent home from international duty, with a statement from Turkey saying he was removed from the squad due to the injury.

Meanwhile, Rangers winger Ross McCausland is likely to miss out again through injury for Northern Ireland as Michael O'Neill looks to build on Friday's 1-1 draw in Romania when his side face Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, it looks like Ross McCausland won't make it," O'Neill said of the 20-year-old. "It would have been nice to get Ross the opportunity."

Ianis Hagi (left) was handed his 31st Romania cap against Northern Ireland

Ianis Hagi was a 75th-minute substitute as he earned his 31st Romania cap against Northern Ireland hours after remarks attributed to the midfielder on loan to Alaves sparked speculation about his Rangers future.

There had already been debate in his homeland about the 25-year-old's form after he failed to become an Ibrox regular again following a year out through injury before heading to La Liga until the end of the season.

Hagi, who is under contract with Rangers until summer 2026, has also made only eight starts - and 14 substitute appearances - for the side sitting 13th in Spain's top flight.

And he was on the Romania bench for a second international running as the side who topped their Euro 2024 qualifying group extended their run of 12 games without defeat after coming from a goal down to draw Friday's friendly in Bucharest.

Prior to the game, however, he was quoted in an interview with Spanish international football website Marca, external as saying "I want to be here for a long time" when asked about whether La Liga suits his style of football.

"I love the level of La Liga, I love everything in Spain: the teams, the competition between players and teams, the pressure that exists here," Hagi said.

"I feel that it is the league in which I can be most successful and in which I can bring out all my qualities and it is the league that I have followed since I was a child and it was always my dream to be here."

Hagi will hope to get another chance to make an impact in Spain on Tuesday, when Romania take on Colombia in Madrid as they continue their preparations for this summer's tournament in Germany.

  13. 'Old Firm at Ibrox is a must win for title hopes' published at 10:31 23 March

    Your Views

We asked for your thoughts as Rangers head into the final stretch of the title race with Celtic.

Here's a taste of what you had to say:

Cameron: Rangers were looking very tired in the games against Benfica, the break has come at the right time to get key players back for the title charge. All we can do is keep winning, the games against Celtic will take care of themselves.

Elaine: If we can get a couple of players back from injury, I don’t see any reason why we can’t win the league. We are a better footballing team than anyone else at the moment. As long as we win the next few games until the split, no one will catch us. Clement will do it in his first season.

Gordon: We need to win the Old Firm game at Ibrox before the split. Going into the last five games with that advantage and continuing to play the way they have been is going to pile pressure on Celtic. we have seen how easily they have cracked this season. That game at Ibrox is a must win, if we want to win this title.

Doug: I think a lot of the momentum will rest on the upcoming Old Firm match. Rangers, despite two good opportunities, have failed to get a result against Celtic this season. A win would be the final piece of the puzzle in shifting the balance of power going into the home straight.

Nicky: If Rangers don't win the league then it will be down to one thing. As in the first two Old Firm games this season - fine margins. We don't have a recognised number nine and no centre forward was signed in January. Roofe, Sima and Danilo have been good but haven't contributed since last year, or in the games against Celtic.

Allan: Rangers have had momentum ever since Clement arrived with the way he's organised the team, also the way he's embraced Glasgow. I think the momentum that Rangers have will lead them to the title.

  18. 'No obvious favourite in title race' - McCullochpublished at 17:01 20 March

Rangers Manager Philippe Clement and Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers during a cinch Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic ParkImage source, SNS

Former Rangers captain Lee McCulloch believes the title race will go down to the last day, because he believes Celtic have too much quality to let their opponents pull away in the run-in.

Brendan Rodgers' men are one point ahead in the Scottish Premiership heading into the international break, but Philippe Clement's Rangers have one game in hand.

“I don’t see an obvious favourite,” McCulloch told PA. “I can see it going as far as the last day. Celtic are getting players back, the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate are massive players for Celtic, and you can’t disregard that.

“Celtic have maybe had their ups and downs in the last months and they’ve maybe not played to their capabilities this season but they’re a very good team.

“You can’t just disregard them and say ‘right, that’s it, Rangers are going to win the league’. There’s a lot of football to be played until the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see which players and which team holds their nerve.

“When you look back at the start of the season there was a disconnect between the [Rangers] players and the fans, so all credit goes to the manager for bringing a togetherness back.

“The bulk of the Celtic players will not really have had a pressured run-in but you could say the same for the Rangers players as well. It will be interesting to see over the final games how certain individuals and how the Rangers and Celtic squads react to the pressure.”

  19. Dundee v Rangers rearranged for 10 Aprilpublished at 15:08 20 March

General view of Dens ParkImage source, SNS

The Scottish Premiership match between Dundee and Rangers has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 10 April and will kick off at 20:00 BST.

The game at Dens Park was originally meant to be played on Sunday, 17 March but was postponed after referee Don Robertson deemed the pitch unplayable.

Despite clashing with two Champions League quarter-finals - Paris Saint-Germain v Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund v Atletico Madrid - the game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

  20. 'No sleep lost over the game that never was'published at 14:51 20 March

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Sport Scotland

    Behind the mic graphic

So when will 'that' game be played? Much has been written and said over the late postponement of Rangers' trip to Dens Park at the weekend.

As unacceptable as it is that one particular pitch should have such issues coping with Scotland's notoriously wet weather, I suspect that privately at least, the Ibrox club won't be overly worried about the missed game-time.

With a treatment room bursting at the seams, manager Philippe Clement will surely have a larger pool of players to choose from when the fixture pops back into the calendar over the next few weeks.

The bigger question for Rangers will be securing a date for the rearranged fixture that suits them. With 3 April and 10 April being touted as possible slots, the latter would surely be more appealing for Philippe Clement and his side.

That's assuming the correct dispensation can be given to clash with the Champions League quarter-finals that week.

There's plenty of precedent for this over the past few years due to Covid-affected games, even though Uefa usually forbids anything significant going up against its prized asset.

Rangers' last match before the Premiership split is away to Ross County on Sunday 14 April. The week before, they're at home to Celtic.

Slipping the Dundee game in between those two fixtures, if allowed, would seem like the most suitable solution. Dundee still have a very good chance of making the top six, and to preserve the integrity of that race, Tony Docherty's side have to fulfil all their fixtures before the middle of April.

Clement isn't likely to complain too much about playing Celtic, Dundee and County in the space of a week.

By which I mean he'd have fewer complaints, you'd think, than the other likely scenario - being asked to go to Dens four days before the Celtic game.

That would leave Rangers with matches against Hibs, Dundee and Celtic, in that order, immediately after the international break.

Given the significance of the derby in the Ibrox side's quest to wrest the title back across the city - their last chance to take points from Celtic in Govan - the Belgian will almost certainly want the same amount of preparation time as his rivals.

If he doesn't get it, for whatever reason, then Rangers' long-standing and much-publicised beef with the blazers at the SPFL will enter yet another chapter. And Clement may come to curse the soggy surface in Dundee much more than he already has.

  21. Rangers to play Man Utd in summer friendly at Murrayfieldpublished at 12:07 20 March

General view of MurrayfieldImage source, SNS

Rangers have announced they will play Manchester United in a pre-season friendly at Murrayfield this summer.

The match will take place on Saturday, 20 July in Edinburgh, and Rangers say it "may be the only opportunity to watch Rangers live in Scotland this pre-season", due to planned works at Ibrox.

Chief commercial officer Karim Virani said: “We are delighted to have been invited to play in this terrific fixture in July against a high-level of opposition in Manchester United.

“Our supporters have fond memories of our one previous trip to Murrayfield, and I am sure will enjoy a fantastic day in the capital in the summer at what is an excellent venue.

“For the club, while most-importantly it will give us an excellent preparation game for Philippe’s men’s first-team squad, it will also give us terrific exposure with the game set to be shown all over the world.

“We are very much looking forward to this game, and will confirm the remainder of our pre-season plans for this summer in due course.”

  23. 'Benfica loss may prove to be a blessing'published at 09:44 19 March

    Jamie Currie
    Fan writer

    Rangers fan's voice banner

After the Benfica loss, it was unfortunate that the Dundee match didn't take place, but I feel like referee Don Robertson made the correct decision to call off the game on Sunday morning.

With the ball being unable to bounce, it wouldn't have been much of a spectacle for the fans and it would have been dangerous for both sets of players.

Even though Rangers go into this international break one point behind Celtic in the league, it perhaps was a blessing that the Dundee match didn't go ahead given the number of players out injured.

Hopefully the guys who are away on international duty will come back healthy and hopefully the guys that are coming back from recent injuries will benefit from the extra week.

That extra rest will probably help guys such as John Lundstram, who has run himself into the ground in recent weeks.

It looks like this team have been running on empty for the last few weeks and going out to Benfica may also prove to be a blessing.

You never like to lose games, but when you look back at the last three Scottish teams who have gone deep in Europe: Celtic in 2003, Rangers in 2008 and again in 2022, they weren't able to back up those runs with league titles.

Rangers now have no distractions as they fight to complete the treble and the three games before the split are all must-wins if they are to wrestle the title back from Celtic.

One thing I hope the coaches work on during this break is set-plays. We don't appear dangerous from those situations and it's something that needs improving. I don't have the stats but it doesn't feel like the out-swinging corners offer much – maybe a switch to in-swingers will bear some fruit.

At this point it feels like nit-picking, as I doubt anyone would have believed we had a legitimate shot at winning the treble when Philippe Clement replaced Michael Beale. It seems so long ago, which is testament to the job he's done.

All focus is now on Hibs on 30 March; a repeat of the 2-0 win in the Scottish Cup would be most welcome.
