The slave trader’s statue that divided a city

Following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, protestors in Bristol tore down the statue of 17th Century slave trader Edward Colston. While some residents of Bristol supported the change, others felt a sentimental attachment to the statue, as Colston's surname was 'stitched into the city'.
