  1. 'A lot of football is about the journey'

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

From a Liverpool fan's perspective, if you look back a week there was the opportunity to do the quadruple. That didn't happen but a lot of football is about the journey and over the season as a fan experience it is where you want to be.

When you look at the job Jurgen Klopp has done and the team he has built... There is now talk of Sadio Mane going to Bayern Munich, what a loss he would be. The question now is can Klopp now build on this season, which has been a brilliant season?

  2. 'I don't have enough respect on my name

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Real Madrid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, speaking to BT Sport: "Yesterday in the press conference I said that when Madrid plays finals they win. I was on the good side of history.

"I saw a lot of tweets coming my way that I would get humbled today it was the other way round.

"Today I needed to win a final for my career, for all the hard work to put respect on my name as I don't think I get enough respect, especially in England. I saw a lot of criticism even after a great season.

"I am really proud of the team. We stuck to it and when I needed to be there I was there for the team. We beat some the best clubs of the world. City and Liverpool were unbelievable this season. They fought to the end in the Premier League, Liverpool won two cups and they were really strong.

"We played a great game today. We had one chance and scored it."

  3. 'I am a record man'

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Real Madrid

Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti told BT Sport: "I can't believe it. We had a fantastic season. We did really well. It was a difficult game and we suffered a lot, more so in the first half. In the end I think we deserved to win this competition.

"We're really happy. What can I say? I can't say more.

"I am a record man. I had luck to come here last year and have a fantastic season. A fantastic club, a really good squad with a lot of quality and mental character.

    "The season was top.

"I think we passed through really difficult games. The supporters helped us a lot in the last game. They helped us tonight. We're happy and they're happy."

On Thibaut Courtois: "Wow. Unbelievable. I can't believe it."

  4. 'Book the hotel for Istanbul next year'

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BT Sport: "In the dressing room nobody feels it was a great season at the moment. We maybe need a few hours for that.

"It was the two decisions against us were the smallest margins possible.

"We played a good game, not a perfect game. I don't think a perfect game is possible against an opponent set up with a deep formation.

"We had a lot of shots but not the clearest. Courtois made two top saves. We conceded a goal from a throw-in. Valverde wanted to shoot, Vinicius was there and that's it.

"The boys tried everything, especially at 1-0 down then we played like we wanted to play before. We had our midfielders too deep. It's a threat they are with counter attacks. We wanted to be more brave in the second half. That's what we said at half-time. We played around them. We should have played more in the formation than around them.

"It feels different. It's not bad to get to the final. It's a kind of success. Not the success you want to have.

"I have a strong feeling we'll come again. The boys are really competitive. It's an outstanding group together. We will have an outstanding group next season.

"Where's it next season? Istanbul? Book the hotel."

  5. 'Be all and end all for Real Madrid'

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Alan Shearer

Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is what Real Madrid demand. It is what their fans want. It is what their president wants. They have to deliver this trophy. It is the be all and end all. Such is their mentality.

I always thought this would be an incredibly tough game because of their history, because of how they got here and their experience and attitude. And let's not forget they have got some really good players in there who, at the highest level, and when it matters most, perform.

  6. Goodnight

That's the end of this live text now on a record-extending night for Real Madrid.

They have won the European Cup 14 times, twice as many as any other team.

For Liverpool, their potential quadruple season ends in just the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

But Jurgen Klopp says you can book your hotels for Istanbul next summer.

Thanks for joining us tonight, I'll leave you with some links the best of the reaction.

  7. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

Liverpool had 24 shots tonight, the most on record (since 2003-04) without scoring for a team in a Champions League final.

Mohamed Salah’s six shots on target is the most on record by any player in a single Champions League final.

  8. Real Madrid's Courtois is your player of the match

  9. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Alan Shearer

Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

So many people worked so hard and spent their money to get to an occasion after what everyone has been through in recent years.

So to come here in any which way they could, have a ticket and then be denied entry and treated in the way they were....

We sensed problems on the way in. We had to get out of the car a mile from the stadium and as soon as we got out there was something not quite right here because it was ram-packed, everyone was pushing and we almost lost each other and only just made it in time to get on air.

To hear of people being sprayed and treated like they were is pretty disgusting.

  10. Post update

Liverpool fan Steve, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I had a ticket for weeks. I got there early and was told I was in the wrong end. I got into the stadium, showed my ticket and then when you walk in to where the pitch is you have to show your ticket again to be shown to your seat.

"I was told you are in the wrong end, you have to go back out and go to the other side. There were Liverpool supporters, Madrid supporters. It was a catastrophe. I went round the other side and it was exactly the same. Police were there pepper spraying people.

"I managed to get in after half time, i missed the first 10 minutes of the second half. There was no organisation. France had plenty of time to get this organised.

"At seven o'clock there were thousands outside. A lot of the turnstiles had been closed."

  11. 'A lot of football is about the journey'

  12. 'The dressing room is devastated'

    FT: Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson talking to BT Sport: "The dressing room is quiet, devastated. That is what happens when you don't win finals.

"We had chances, came up against an unbelievable keeper. Being honest though, we could have played better. In the second half we didn't start great and they got hold of the game. When you come up against experiened teams like that they know how to win finals.

"We are a pressing team, it has worked so much for us but we have been caught back post and that's football. It is hard to get back in the game playing against against a very experienced team, they know how to see out a game."

  13. Post update

A statement here by Gerald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior of France, from the control room at Stade de France.

He blames tonight’s events on fans with fake tickets and claims fans attacked stewards. He also thanks police for mobilising.

His statement translated reads: "Thousands of British "supporters", without tickets or with counterfeit tickets, forced entry and sometimes assaulted the stewards. Thank you to the very many police forces mobilised this evening in this difficult context."

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

Liverpool fans, you might have to write to your local MP to get me taken off the BBC Sport live text commentary next season if it's another Liverpool v Real Madrid final.

I also did the 2018 live text. In fact I've done three Champions League finals - and Real Madrid have won them all (also 2016).

  15. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Real Madrid

Real's players are still on the pitch with their families having a great time.

Rio Ferdinand says he didn't pay for a pint for two years after he won the Champions League.
