Police launched a manhunt after reports of someone armed with a weapon in South Bristol. One woman received what police said they believed to be a superficial injury to her hand in the incident, which happened early yesterday morning (Tuesday, August 9).

A source told Bristol Live there was a man with a "machete", while police described it as a "bladed weapon". People living in Dakin Close, a cul-de-sac off Newry Walk, in the Melvin Square area of Knowle West, were woken by the incident, and the police attending.

Police searched the surrounding streets but could not find the man alleged to have wielded a blade. Avon and Somerset police reassured people living in Knowle West that they believe it to be an 'isolated incident', and inquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said: "We were called at 5.16am on Tuesday, August 9 to Dakin Close, in Bristol, following reports of a man with a bladed weapon. Upon arrival at the scene, officers conducted a search of the area and spoke to witnesses, but did not locate a suspect. One woman attended a walk-in centre to be treated for what’s believed to be a superficial injury to her hand.

"At this stage we’re treating this an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing. If anyone witnessed the incident, or has any information which could aid the investigation, please contact 101 and give the call handler the log number 138 of August 9," she added.
