Police are still trying to identify the man in a CCTV shared as part of an investigation into an assault in one of the city's Wetherspoons.

Emily Browne, from Cardiff, ended up in hospital with a head injury in her first night out ever after being hit by a glass at a Wetherspoons on Saturday, January 15. The young woman was out celebrating her 18th birthday with some friends in Bristol when the assault happened at the V-Shed on Bristol's Harbourside.

Police have now renewed their appeal for the public's help to try an identify the man on the CCTV images released. Officers believe he has information which may help their investigation.

The force said this afternoon (August 10): "We are still appealing for the public's help to identify the man in this CCTV who we would like to speak to in connection with an incident at V Shed, in Bristol. We believe he has information which may aid our investigation."

The full, original appeal from Avon and Somerset Police said: “Do you recognise this male?

“Police would like to speak to him in connection with an investigation into an assault on an 18-year-old female which took place in V Shed, Canons Road, Bristol on Saturday 15 January at around 10.10pm.

“An item was thrown at the victim by an unknown offender, striking her head and causing injury which required hospital treatment. We’d ask anyone who recognises the male pictured, witnessed this incident or has any other information to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference 5222012002.”

The teenager had even booked a hotel for the night - but instead ended up spending the night at A&E on her own. Ms Browne - who received two staples to the back of her head as a result of the injury - has previously said she was in a lot of pain and described the night as "really traumatic".

Shortly after the assault, she told BristolLive: "It was horrible. I was bleeding so much that by the time they had put the bandage in it was soaked in blood.

"I am suffering from a bit of short-term memory loss now, as well as having headaches and feeling fatigued. I am waking up in the night with nightmares.

"I do not really feel like I am in the moment, I do not feel like myself."

The A-level student said she was ordering her second drink at the bar in the Wetherspoon pub when the back of her head went numb. The 18-year-old said they believe an item made out of glass was thrown from the balcony area, which overlooks the area, into the crowd.

However, Wetherspoon has said plastic glasses are used at the pub from 7pm on Friday and Saturday. A Wetherspoon spokesman has previously said: “We are aware of an incident which took place at the V Shed in Bristol on 15 January, where a customer was hit with a plastic glass.

"An ambulance was called by the pub’s staff, but they were told it would not able to attend for some time due to a high level of emergency calls and were advised that the customer should attend a nearby medical unit.

"In the interim, the pub’s door security team administered first aid on the customer. CCTV of the incident has been retained, which will be passed to the police if it is requested. We wish the customer a full and speedy recovery.”
