Henry Kwek on Singapore Armed Forces and Other Matters Bill
Singapore’s value proposition to the world can be summed up in three words - trust, connectivity and knowledge; and all three can be undermined by cybersecurity threats, said MP Henry Kwek in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 2). He added that as a net importer of IT capabilities and talent, it is harder for the country to keep itself safe. Mr Kwek urged the Singapore Armed Forces to be bold and innovative in recruiting and retaining talent for its new Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS). He said the salary structure may have to “deviate considerably” from the rest of the military, with pay benchmarked against the private sector. He also said DIS personnel should actively participate in exchanges with trusted countries to ensure they are ready to cope with national-level threats and attacks.
