Everton star Idrissa Gueye ready to quit for Saudi club after clause reveal – sources
Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye is wanted by Saudi Pro League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Gueye, 34, is out of contract at Goodison Park at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
The Merseysiders have a clause in that deal to extend his stay an extra 12 months – but Football Insider revealed on Monday (15 April) that the club are not likely to activate it even if they stay in the Premier League.
It is believed Everton are keen to get the midfield star’s reported £80,000-a-week wage off the books as their financial woes continue.
Saudi Pro League clubs are ready to approach the Senegal international about a potential move – and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that a Middle East switch is an attractive proposition for Gueye.
Gueye keen on Saudi switch when Everton contract ends this summer
The defensive midfielder re-joined Everton for a reported fee of around £2million in 2022 after a spell at Paris Saint-Germain.
He has made 23 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign – starting in 19 of those outings.
Gueye has struggled for regular game time in recent weeks due to a groin injury.
Everton sit 16th in the Premier League table and are two points above the drop zone after losing 6-0 at Chelsea on Monday (15 April).
Sean Dyche’s side face 17th-place Nottingham Forest at home on Sunday (21 April).
