  • ⚖ 💻 18 March 2024, the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the Superior Council of Magistracy of Portugal (Conselho Superior da Magistratura) held the closing conference of the "Foster Transparency of Judicial Decisions and Enhancing the National Implementation of the ECHR" (TJENI) project in Lisbon. The Project was funded by the EEA and Norway Grants.   Over 60 participants from #Cyprus #Greece #Hungary #France #Lithuania #Poland #Portugal #Norway and #Romania discussed project’s achievements, solutions and challenges related to the transparency of judicial decisions, open data in judiciary, including licensing of the reuse of judicial data and other pertinent topics.   “TJENI [project] is a very good example of how cooperation in this format can help us move forward together – and we are certainly committed to continuing with this model, including to further open-up access to justice” stressed Mr Bjorn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, in his video address.   Find out more about the TJENI project https://go.coe.int/UgZek Video about the project https://lnkd.in/eUyBeKis #TJENI #justice #technology

  • [EN] On 27 March 2024, the Committee of Ministers’ Chairmanship of Liechtenstein, in collaboration with the Department for the Execution of Judgments, will organise a High-Level Conference, “’Of Unsound Mind’: Convention-compliant approaches to the execution of judgments concerning involuntary detention and treatment on mental health grounds”. At present there are a number of cases pending under the supervision of the Committee of Ministers, concerning a variety of countries, where general measures are required to address problems highlighted by the Court under Articles 3 (Prohibition of torture), 5 (Right to liberty) and 8 (Right to respect for private and family life) of the Convention, concerning involuntary detention and treatment on grounds of mental ill-health. The conference aims to clarify the relevant legal standards regarding rule of law safeguards and conditions in institutions, and also to provide inspiring examples of Convention-compliant practice. Actuellement, un certain nombre d’affaires sont pendantes sous la surveillance du Comité des Ministres, concernant différents pays, dans lesquels des mesures générales sont nécessaires pour remédier à des problèmes mis en évidence par la Cour au titre des articles 3 (interdiction de la torture), 5 (droit à la liberté) et 8 (droit au respect de la vie privée et familiale) de la Convention concernant la détention et le traitement involontaires pour raisons de santé mentale. La conférence a pour objectif de clarifier les normes juridiques pertinentes concernant les garanties d’État de droit et les conditions dans les institutions, ainsi que de fournir des exemples inspirants de pratiques conformes à la Convention.   • ⚖️ Ensuring a thorough and effective human rights protection system in Europe ⚖️ This week, legal professionals from across Europe attended the launch in Strasbourg of the Council of Europe's HELP course "Introduction to the protection of human rights in Europe". 🔵 The course explores the interaction between the ECHR and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, focusing on the convergence of the two systems.
