📢 Our 2023 Annual Report is now published! In 2023, the global humanitarian landscape faced unprecedented challenges as the funding gap widened amidst escalating needs. A trend which continues to test the sectors' ability to respond effectively to crises worldwide. It is at such a juncture that IMPACT’s work becomes most urgent. As Luca Pupulin, IMPACT Initiatives Chief Executive Officer, notes: “Through our growing capability to deliver actionable evidence where it is most needed—including in hard-to-reach areas—we play an increasingly crucial role in supporting international solidarity mechanisms to prioritize the most vulnerable. As questions arise about the international solidarity system and its humanitarian architecture, our responsibility to contribute to the evidence base that supports it has never been greater.” In 2023, IMPACT conducted nearly 600,000 interviews and published over 1,500 information products to inform decision-making processes to prioritize aid where it is most needed. Our annual report is now available in both printable PDF and digital formats, highlights this extensive work across the 34 countries where we operate. UADAMAGE and IMPACT collaborate on Ukraine's recovery UADAMAGE and IMPACT Initiatives have partnered to implement projects focused on remote damage assessment and the restoration of war-affected regions in Ukraine. The IMPACT team has successfully integrated UADAMAGE's AI solutions and GIS platform into their humanitarian projects, automating damage assessment processes, accelerating data analysis, and enhancing result accuracy. This approach provides valuable insights for strategic decision-making for various actors involved in Ukraine’s recovery. 🌍 About IMPACT: Created in 2010, IMPACT is a Geneva-based NGO and the largest independent data provider in contexts of crisis. It aims to promote evidence-based decisions, shape practices and influence policies in humanitarian and development settings, to positively impact the lives of communities. IMPACT has an established field presence in Ukraine since 2015 and is present in over 30 countries. Through our team of assessment, data, geospatial, and thematic specialists, we implement people-centred research and set standards for collecting and analysing rigorous, high-quality data in complex environments. 📊 Damage assessment in the cities of Izyum and Nikopol: As part of ongoing projects, IMPACT utilised UADAMAGE’s platform to process large volumes of data using neural networks, significantly accelerating the work of its remote sensing team. UADAMAGE’s interactive reports facilitated easy visualisation of analysis results for each building in the city. The results of the analysis can be used by other operational actors in humanitarian crisis response to guide their own recovery decisions. IMPACT report on Izyum: https://lnkd.in/eXNuaJpC IMPACT report on Nikopol: https://lnkd.in/eQabkfqm 🤝 Future collaboration: UADAMAGE and IMPACT will continue their collaboration on damage and war-induced contamination assessments in the most heavily impacted areas of Ukraine. UADAMAGE’s AI solutions expand the scope, quality, and speed of data collection and analysis. Meanwhile, IMPACT, with its expertise in damage assessment and data analysis for humanitarian response, provides critical feedback and assigns additional tasks to enhance UADAMAGE’s platform capabilities. 🔗 Want to learn more about our projects? Leveraging data for better services: A Joint Analysis Workshop on #Refugees from Ukraine in #Moldova Last week, IMPACT hosted a workshop with partners to analyse the findings of the Refugee Population Profiling (RPoP) Assessment, focusing on refugees from Ukraine currently living in Moldova. The workshop included the participation of key implementation partners to discuss data management, inter-organisational cooperation, and addressing information gaps regarding the refugee population in Moldova. In Moldova, there is not a confirmed number of refugees from Ukraine, which affect the ability of implementing partners to tailor their response. The workshop aimed to better inform humanitarian organisations regarding the identified gaps in coverage regarding refugees from Ukraine in Moldova. During active discussions, participants shared expertise, knowledge, and insights, resulting in actionable recommendations. Key takeaways include: - Developing a mechanism to understand refugee population needs and movement patterns and how they change, to better identify and address potential gaps in coverage - Standardising mechanisms for assessing beneficiaries of humanitarian assistance - Enhancing cooperation with national actors and social workers - Building the capacity of national actors in data management to be better able to respond to the needs of refugees. Next steps include further dissemination of RPoP findings, and the actionable recommendations formed with our partners during this workshop. Through this research, we aim to advocate for the importance of inter-organizational cooperation and the collective management of refugee data.
