Over 1 million people in #Rafah, half of them children, have been ordered to flee to unsafe areas⚠️ They haven't got enough food, water or shelter, and are facing unimaginable horrors. All States must act now to protect civilians and prevent atrocity crimes in Rafah. Now more than ever we need an immediate, definitive #CeasefireNow. There is so much more that can and must be done to save children’s lives in #Gaza.

We hoped this day would never come. Israeli forces issued relocation orders demanding civilians in eastern Rafah to flee to the Israeli-designated so-called ‘humanitarian zone’ in Al-Mawasi.  The announced incursion will not only risk the lives of over 600,000 children but will at best disrupt and at worst cause the collapse of the humanitarian aid response currently struggling to keep #Gaza’s population alive.  Forcibly displacing people from Rafah while further disrupting the aid response will likely seal the fate of many children. We call on all States to act now to protect civilians and prevent atrocity crimes in #Rafah.  Full statement ➡ https://lnkd.in/eWpPG6cE

  • Nearly 1 in 5 children born in 2024 will do so without medical care, putting them and their mothers at risk⚠️ Climate change, conflict and neglect of reproductive health rights are slowing progress towards a world where childbirth is no longer a deadly threat for millions of women and their babies. ➡️ Almost half of births (44%) in conflict zones take place outside a health facility compared to 15% of births elsewhere. ➡️ Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of extreme heat and wildfires, associated with heightened risks of preterm birth, stillbirths and pregnancy complications. Action on #maternalhealth worldwide was advancing a decade ago, but progress to achieve the UN goal of 70 deaths per 100,000 births globally by 2030 is now stalling. This International Day of the Midwife is important to remember that healthcare isn't a privilege, but a right. All women, even in the most remote and dangerous areas of the world, should have access to medical care and midwives must be provided with the adequate environment to help women deliver safely❤️ #IDM2024

  • Nearly 90% of all school buildings in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed⚠️ This school in Khan Yunis – along with countless of other schools, homes, health facilities and infrastructure – has been completely destroyed. No school should ever be attacked. No child should ever be scared when sheltering in schools or hospitals. The physical and mental toll this war is taking on children is absolutely devastating. Every child deserves a safe environment to live, learn and grow. The children of #Gaza need an immediate, definitive #CeasefireNOW.

  • Over 1.3 billion children face corporal punishment each year in 133 countries⚠️ Progress towards global elimination is too slow. Without urgent action, it will take 60 years to achieve this. But today, we have some positive news to share❤️ This International Day to End Corporal Punishment, we're pleased to report that Laos has become the 66th UN state and the 1st country in South East Asia to outlaw corporal punishment of children. This is a major step in addressing the protection of children globally. But it cannot stop here. We need more change NOW. The futures of our children are at stake. #EndCorporalPunishment #SDG16

  • We are proud to announce together with Justice Rapid Response the launch of the e-learning course Integrating a Child Rights Approach in Accountability Work! This is an online course dedicated to increase the capacity of justice and human rights experts to integrate a child rights sensitive approach in their accountability work. This e-learning course, made possible thanks to the support of the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), is among the first learning platforms of the kind to contribute actively to mainstreaming a child rights lens in justice and accountability efforts. We encourage all justice actors to go through this 2,5 hour module to learn more about best practices when investigating crimes and violations affecting children. • Wondering what a day in the life of a health worker treating #malaria in rural Côte d’Ivoire is like? François Kouadio, 46, lives in a small village in rural Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. He is a trained health worker who cycles from home to home — up to 8 families per day — to screen for sick children, provide appropriate treatments, raise awareness about malaria, and educate people on malaria preventions. To detect malaria, François runs blood tests on a child who has a fever. Out of the 31 children François has treated so far this year, 24 had malaria and have successfully been treated. François is also teaching people how to protect themselves from mosquitos by using mosquito nets, keeping houses clean, and covering up water reserves. Compared to the past when up to 30 children had malaria in a month, the cases have now dropped significantly, thanks to health workers like François. Save the Children is supporting the efforts of The Global Malaria Fund project (2021-2023) to eliminate malaria in Côte d’Ivoire. We are providing technical and strategical support, financial support and also equipping health centres with bicycles, medication boxes, thermometers, data collection and reporting tools! Watch and share!⬇️ #WorldMalariaDay

  • For 15 years, our partnership with Bulgari has shared a common goal: to contribute to building a better future through education and creating new opportunities for younger generations. But with 468 million children living in conflict affected areas, 222 million crisis-affected children needing education support, and 153 million children facing acute hunger, our mission continues. We are proud of this partnership that has grown over time, making a lasting positive impact on over 2 million children in 37 countries and their communities worldwide🌍❤️ Bulgari Global Brand Ambassador Anne Hathaway becomes part of this community and joins its commitment with a message about the importance to go further and do more. #WithMeWithYou
