🚨 Big hit in Spain against drug trafficking: 42 arrested and over 2 tonnes of cannabis seized. Europol supported Spanish Guardia Civil, French and Turkish authorities in this large-scale operation against a criminal network trafficking large amounts of cannabis across Western Europe. 📍Europol's Executive Director co-chaired a high-Level meeting of law enforcement and anti-corruption authorities on combatting high-level corruption at the #IACC2024 in Lithuania last week. ✅The event concluded with the signing of a joint statement which commits to international information sharing as a means to tackle the global challenge of corruption. 🌐 As many of Europol’s cases and investigations uncover corruption, and it is a key facilitator for the organised criminal networks we are pursuing, it is important to work closely with our partners on this crucial topic.

🚨 Human trafficking action week: 219 criminals arrested and 1 374 victims identified. #EMPACT joint action days ‘GLOBAL CHAIN’ focused on cases of sexual exploitation, forced criminality and forced begging. Between 3 and 9 June, 39 countries from across the globe participated in the EMPACT joint action days against trafficking in human beings. Led by Austria and co-led by Romania, Europol, Frontex and INTERPOL, the massive operation codenamed ‘GLOBAL CHAIN’ resulted in the arrest of 219 persons and the identification of over 1374 victims, including 153 children. During today's summit on the occasion of the 20. birthday of the EDPS - European Data Protection Supervisor, Europol was represented by our independent Data Protection Officer Daniel Drewer. The topic of the discussion touched on the question how a functioning democratic oversight can be build in a world with evolving threat landscapes and digital challenges. The Data Protection Function is an integral part of Europol and the initial point of contact for all data protection issues. The unit is headed by the Data Protection Officer (DPO), who is appointed by Europol’s Management Board.
