A global movement of people who won't live with poverty.

About us

Oxfam is a vibrant global movement of dedicated people fighting poverty - together. Oxfam fights poverty in three ways: Campaigning, Development and Emergency Response. Campaigning for change: Poverty isn’t just about lack of resources. In a wealthy world it’s about bad decisions made by powerful people. Oxfam campaigns hard, putting pressure on leaders for real lasting change. Development work: Poor people can take control, solve their own problems, and rely on themselves – with the right support. Fighting poverty, we fund long-term work worldwide. Emergency response: People need help in an emergency – fast. We save lives, swiftly delivering aid, support and protection; and we help people prepare for future crises. Oxfam also has around 670 shops in the UK and an online shop selling over 100,000 volunteer-listed second-hand clothes, books, music and collectables, plus Fairtrade and ethical gifts: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop Interested in working for Oxfam? Hang on – is gender equality an untapped solution to climate change? 🤔 Welcome to the first episode of Climate+, our brand new series exploring the intersectionality of climate change and social justice in collaboration with Earthrise Studio We know that climate change – like many other things in this world – disproportionately impacts women, and that’s what we’re discussing in episode one. Women are often the backbone of communities across the world, yet when it comes to decision-making and negotiations on climate they’re often denied a seat at the table. That’s why climate activists like Joyce Koech, who we speak to in this episode, are fighting to ensure that girls have access to a quality education and to make this a key part of the climate conversation. Let us know what you think of this episode and tag a woman you admire in the climate space in the comments! 💬 #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #GenderEquality #WomensRights

We want to shout out Lorna and the team at the Water Tank café in the Oxfam superstore! They provide delicious coffee and food to the people of Oxford and will soon be opening a new branch in Oxfam’s Manchester superstore (opening 19th July 2024!). “The Water Tank café first opened on the same day as the superstore. However, during the Covid lockdown, the caterers contracted to the café made redundancies, which included myself. I was then contacted by Oxfam about reopening the café as my own business. We reopened in May 2021 and we’ve never looked back! “There are so many great sustainable and ethical food and drinks companies out there with amazing stories behind them. It's great to be an independent business that can do their part in supporting some of those wonderful products. I love to work with the wonderful local suppliers especially those that are social enterprises. “Although it’s incredibly hard work to run a small business, I love the freedom. We are not restricted in terms of what suppliers we use or products we sell and the team get to be involved in coming up with new ideas. “I’m so excited to bring the Water Tank to our new Manchester superstore in July, I think we’ll bring some unique to the Manchester Fort shopping park!” - Lorna, Water Tank café owner 🍰
