Black scholars stories told on guided bus tour

A new bus tour is offering the chance to hear the untold stories of black Oxford scholars.

A new one-of-a-kind guided bus tour will reveal the stories of a city's black scholars, some for the first time.

Bus agency City Sightseeing Oxford starts delivering its inaugural Black Oxford Untold Stories guided tour on Saturday.

The project, developed in collaboration with author and historian Pamela Roberts, aims to showcase the lasting impact black academics from the University of Oxford have made on the world.

Ms Roberts refers to some of the scholars featured on the tour, such as the university's first black student Christian Cole, as "the trinity".

The tour will look at the stories of scholars who had an impact in law, politics and the arts.

Guests will be guided down the paths these scholars once walked and shared their ideas.

Ms Roberts will be there to "breathe life" into their stories, a statement from the sightseeing company said.

The author of Black Oxford: The Untold Stories of Oxford University’s Black Scholars wants to "remove barriers" by making the stories of academics more accessible to the public, it added.
