Kilskeery celebrates decision not to close primary school

A County Tyrone primary school which was facing closure due to low pupil numbers is at the "heart of the community", parents have said.

The Education Authority (EA) carried out a consultation on a proposal to close Queen Elizabeth II in Kilskeery later this year.

The school has 40 pupils and is one of only two in Northern Ireland named after the late monarch.

However Education Minister Paul Givan has now rejected these plans.

One parent, Sandra Coulter whose son Sam attends the school, has said she is delighted with the decision.

She said: “I have had three sons come through this school and as a parent that is not from this area, it brings the school together and introduces you to new people."
