Lea Michele hints a Funny Girl movie may be on the way... possibly a filmed version of the Broadway stage show like Disney Plus' Hamilton

While Lea Michele winds down her run as Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl, she's hopeful that a movie adaptation may come after.

The original musical - with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill and the book by Isobel Lennart - debuted on Broadway in 1964, with Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice.

The latest revival debuted in March 2022 with Beanie Feldstein in the lead role, though she left the show after a few months, with Michele, 36, taking over.

'You know, I think that’s the hope. I think we really would love to make that happen. I have five more months in the show, so if we can squeeze it in,' Michele began.

'It’s hard. I’ve talked to a couple people who have made filmed versions and it’s taxing. But I think that if we can make that happen, it would be great,' the actress added.

She joked, 'If I have to be there overnight… I’ll do the show, I’ll put my son to sleep, I’ll come back, I’ll film it.'

The actress first revealed her son Ever was hospitalized in late March, revealing she would have to bow out of a few Funny Girl performances because of her son's illness.

'We are at the hospital with our son dealing with a scary health issue that I need to be here for,' she said on social media

The Glee star added, 'I'm so sorry. Please send us some love and strength.'

When asked at the Variety event about her son's condition, she opened up about how grateful her and husband Zandy Reich are for the support.

'My husband and I, my whole family, we're just so grateful. We've had so much incredible support, from our friends, people we don't know, our Funny Girl family,' Michele added.
