The deaths of archaeologist Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon have long been linked to the Pharaoh's curse that threatens 'death by disease' upon anyone who disturbed King Tutankhamun's tomb. However, a new study has claimed there is a biological reason behind the deaths of the two men and more than 20 others who mysteriously died following the discovery in 1922. Another five men were snapped lunching inside the tomb following the discovery - and they all died from various illnesses in their 50s. However, inscriptions found inside other burials throughout Egypt suggested the ancient people knew about the dangers that lurked inside. The text included areas were 'forbidden' because of 'evil spirits.' Shortly after the tomb was opened, there was a short power failure and all the lights throughout Cairo went out. People involved in the excavation died of asphyxia, stroke, diabetes, heart failure, pneumonia, poisoning, malaria and X-ray exposure - they all passed in their 50s.

EXCLUSIVEMeghan's brand troubles: Netflix could step in to help run American Riviera Orchard after Duchess failed to find a CEO despite wide search - as streaming giant also plots new show and looks to US TV couple for inspiration

The Duchess of Sussex was unable to fulfil her ambitions within the Royal Family . Now, she seems to be struggling to achieve them outside it as well. Meghan has failed to find a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for her new cooking and lifestyle business, American Riviera Orchard, despite having interviewed several candidates for the position and having began the search five weeks ago. 'The initial CEO search has not panned out so far,' a California-based source said. So much so, Ian freely gave his time to run an after-school fishing club for deprived youngsters. James still texts his father, even though his phone is no longer in service.

Sickening moment 'jealous' thug tries to kill his ex-girlfriend by slashing her throat and stabbing her nine times in front of terrified diners after searching 'how to murder someone' - as he is jailed for 16 years

Sriram Ambarla (inset), 25, attacked his former partner in a fit of rage (left and right), stabbing her repeatedly, even as she collapsed to the floor, inside a restaurant on Barking Road in East Ham in March 2022. The court heard Ambarla met the woman studying engineering in India in 2016, but they split in around 2019 at a time when Ambarla was physically abusive and threatened to kill himself if she did not stay with him. After days of turning up at her house unexpectedly and attempts to blackmail her into marriage, Ambarla eventually travelled to the East London restaurant where she worked and tried to kill her. The Old Bailey heard that in the moments before his vicious attack, which left the woman in critical care for nearly a month, Ambarla made a number of searches about 'killing a human' as he sat in the restaurant waiting for a time to strike.

I am in a busy McDonald's in Covent Garden, London , picking up a double cheeseburger with large fries and a Caesar & bacon chicken wrap with fries. The cost is £12.71, but it's not for me. Once I have taken the paper bag, pressed 'collected order' on the Deliveroo rider app and then swiped 'go to customer', I realise the food's destination is a mere 300 yards away. I can almost see the flat from the entrance of the fast food restaurant. The customer seems nice - he has a £2 tip in coins ready for me after I climb the three storeys to his front door - so I ask him why he bothered using Deliveroo rather than popping out himself. 'It's the crowds,' he says. 'I just don't want to battle through the 100s and 1000s of people out there.'

In 1935 the exquisitely pretty Paget sisters - identical twins who were also the Debutantes of the Year - took English society by storm. Society photographer Norman Parkinson used them as models and newspapers photographed them at every opportunity. Well-connected, they seemed destined for 'good' marriages and the relative obscurity of upper-class country life. Certainly no one could have predicted that, instead, two of the literary giants of the 20th century would become utterly infatuated with them. George Orwell was the first to be smitten, after meeting Celia at Paddington station. Some time later, in Paris, the French novelist Albert Camus fell madly in love with her sister Mamaine. As leading socialist intellectuals of their day, both authors were the antithesis of the chinless wonders the twins were expected to marry. On the surface at least, two more unlikely romantic pairings seem hard to imagine.

NEW Born at Balmoral, this grand-daughter of Queen Victoria spent her happy childhood years at Kensington Palace. Later she'd be remembered as the great-great grandmother of the present King of Spain, Felipe VI - but only after a turbulent life which embraced haemophilia, the Spanish flu pandemic, the Spanish Civil War, and exile. Possessed of startling aquamarine eyes, she was 'licentious and very bawdy in her conversation' according to the diarist Chips Channon. In other words, more than a bit naughty. But tragedy stalked her footsteps. She inherited the 'royal disease', haemophilia, through her grandmother Victoria, which she was to pass on to her sons once she married.

It was just the sort of picture that thousands of people have taken and shared after a night out; a snap that is 'liked' by their friends then forgotten about. The four lads never imagined what was about to happen - or how huge an impact that innocent photo would have on their lives. A few months later, it was somehow picked up by a viral Facebook page and memes - a kind of internet joke - of them - dubbed 'four lads in jeans' - spread worldwide. Incidentally, only two of them - Kevin and Connor - were actually wearing denim.

The phrase 'We are not amused' is famously associated with Queen Victoria. Legend has it she uttered the words after a performance of HMS Pinafore, though other stories claim it was in response to a dull joke. And now it has emerged that Prince Charles was not amused when his late mother, the Queen, modelled for her dresser, Angela Kelly - and was photographed with her hands in her pockets! Worse, still the photographs then appeared in Ms Kelly's 2019 book, The Queen, The Dresser and The Wardrobe.

Zero fox given: Hilarious moment man tells a pal how 'friendly' urban fox is... before it sinks its teeth into him

This is the moment an urban fox dubbed 'Roxy' sniffed a man's leg then bit him - after he called the animal friendly. Daniel Owen, 27, was waiting for the bus with another man in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on Wednesday at 5.45am when a fox ran up to them. The man claimed the animal was 'friendly' before it bit him - puncturing his skin and drawing blood, Daniel explained. The fox - known locally as 'Roxy' - had initially come up to them while they waited at the bus stop and started sniffing before it went for the man. The victim - who had his shopping in his hand - believed the fox was just being curious before it lashed out.

When the Dacia Duster first burst onto the UK market in 2013, its sub-£10,000 starting price grabbed headlines. Launched as a no-frills compact family car, it provided a tempting choice for motorists who cared more about the reserves in their bank balance than they did for modern luxuries, the latest technology or the upmost refinement from a vehicle. Fast-forward a decade and the Romanian car maker - owned by Renault - has unveiled its third-generation Duster. And for 2024, there is a distinct move up market. But has Dacia now put at risk Duster's unique selling point of offering the absolute minimum requirements from a car to guarantee a market-busting low price? We've been driving it in Spain to find out...
