In May 2023, midwife Thlang Sotheavy helped a woman who had given birth at sea — and a year later, she did it again! Sotheavy — who received training through FHI 360’s Alive & Thrive initiative — supported the new mothers and babies, including helping them practice skin-to-skin contact and early #breastfeeding. This #WorldBreastFeedingWeek, learn how Alive & Thrive is ensuring mothers and newborns receive quality care: https://bit.ly/4c8VVS0 #WBW2024

For 5 years, our Mhuri/Imuli I project in Zimbabwe connected over 150,000 clients to maternal and newborn health (#MNCH) services and 326,000 clients to voluntary #FamilyPlanning services. We also trained over 1,000 health care providers in 71 facilities and improved the quality of care for over 211,000 institutional births. We are excited to announce that we have partnered with USAID again to launch Mhuri/Imuli II! The Activity will build on successes recorded under Mhuri/Imuli I, including saving the lives of more than 800,000 babies and reducing the infant mortality rate by 10% by 2028.

For Sulfa Wathena, the pressure to marry came at the age of 15. Sulfa lives in #Mozambique, where 1 in 2 girls are married or in martial union before they turn 18. “I said no, I don’t want to marry...I am not prepared to get married.” Sulfa was well aware of the risks of #ChildMarriage, because of the USAID #AlcançarProject, led by FHI 360. Today, Sulfa is nearly 18 and the first person in her family to enroll in post-secondary education. https://bit.ly/3WIph5e

Adolescent girls and young women — particularly in eastern and southern Africa — remain highly susceptible to acquiring #HIV. MOSAIC Consortium, led by FHI 360, is working to accelerate the availability and uptake of new #HIVPrevention methods. The project has relied on a dynamic team of paid youth advocates known as the NextGen Squad. Meet three NextGen Squad members: https://bit.ly/3WtECGP #AIDS2024
