About us

POWERED BY POSSIBLE The world is more fragile than ever. Food shortages have left millions of people hungry, while violent conflict has sent millions on the run. From poverty and malnutrition to natural disasters and climate change, it’s easy to see a world of insurmountable challenges. Instead, we see an opportunity to create transformative change. We see the world differently. In crisis, we believe in the power of human potential. In struggle, we believe in the ability of communities to grow stronger. So we act differently. We understand that communities are the best agents of their own change and local markets are the best engines of long-term recovery. In more than 40 countries, we partner to put bold solutions into action, helping people triumph over adversity and grow stronger from within. For the refugee who dreams of rebuilding her country, for the mother who wants a healthy future for her children — for millions of people filled with the power of possibility —Mercy Corps connects people to the resources they need to build better, stronger lives. We create transformative change. Mercy Corps has responded to nearly every global emergency over the past 20 years. Since 1979, we have provided $3.7 billion in lifesaving assistance throughout the world. Each year we infuse millions of dollars into local economies through small business loans and grants to provide livelihoods for the world’s most vulnerable people. We are empowering more than 100,000 youth trapped by violent conflict to overcome the profound stress of war and become change makers in their communities. We are powered by the belief that a better world is possible. Join us.

Mercy Corps is horrified by the alarming continuation of violence committed against civilians in Israel and Gaza, and deeply concerned by the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. As the conflict escalates, the urgent need for humanitarian assistance - and supplies including water, food and fuel - intensifies. Mercy Corps has worked in the West Bank and Gaza since 1986, providing humanitarian support including access to water, working with children and young people, and connecting people to economic opportunities in an area where unemployment is over 40 percent. We are working to restart our humanitarian programs in Gaza and our team members there are committed to significantly ramping up much-needed lifesaving assistance as soon as it is safe to do so. #gaza #israel #palestine #humanitarianaid

🔴 We are deeply alarmed by the rapid escalation of violence in #Lebanon that has claimed hundreds of lives, injured thousands, and put innocent civilians in danger. Our team members in Lebanon, like millions of others, are living in fear of the next attack. There is widespread panic, with people rushing to supermarkets and fuel stations to stock up on essentials. Families are fleeing their homes, with many stuck on the roads as they search for safety. An immediate halt to hostilities and adherence to international humanitarian law is ESSENTIAL l to protect civilian lives, prevent further destruction, and allow for the delivery of critical aid.

For more than 20 years, Mercy Corps and The Starbucks Foundation have been at the forefront of supporting coffee-, tea-, and cocoa-growing communities around the world. In Indonesia, coffee farmers are facing more frequent natural disasters like flooding and tsunamis. Mercy Corps and the Starbucks Foundation are supporting women entrepreneurs to adapt to climate change and improve their livelihoods.  Coffee farmer Endah developed an idea for a tea made from coffee cascara during a Mercy Corps’ entrepreneurship training. By learning accounting and business skills, she now earns enough profit to pay the school fees of her three siblings and has diversified her income to withstand shocks posed by climate change. The Starbucks Foundation’s significant support of Mercy Corps’ Climate: Possible campaign enables Mercy Corps to expand our impact and create lasting climate resilience around the world.  In 2023, Mercy Corps reached nearly 6 million people through our climate-related work. Through Climate: Possible, we aim to reach millions more with climate-smart solutions and high-impact climate startups. Together, we’re making a climate resilient future possible. When we say the time for bold climate action is NOW, we mean it.⏰‼️ According to Climate Clock, the next ~5 years are humanity’s best window to avoid raising global temperatures above 1.5 degrees Celsius. Even as we count down, communities across the globe are already feeling the harsh effects of rising temperatures and increasingly frequent extreme weather events. We know what we need to do, and by when.  Let’s get to work. #ActInTime #ClimateWeekNYC
