I dated a guy who seemed really nice until he told me his kids’ names – I think my brain short-circuited

A PLEASANT date ended on a sour note after a woman learned what her potential partner had named his children.

She said that the guy she went out with seemed nice — but his son's name left her flabbergasted.

A Redditor who goes by Flashlightbugs shared the unusual monikers to the thread.

"I dated a guy who seemed really nice until he told me his kids’ names," she said.

"I can’t remember his daughter’s name, because he told me his son’s name first and it was Deizl. I think my brain short-circuited," she added.

The odd baby name triggered questions from several other users of the platform.

"Oh oh, I knew a truck mechanic who named his two sons 'Diesel' and 'Axel.' Even with normal spelling, it’s awful. You can’t make this s*** up," one wrote.

"How is it meant to be pronounced? Because I read it as 'diesel,'" another asked.

"Yes. That’s it," she replied

Another user asked if her former beau was into race cars to choose that name.

"This was around 2012 and I’m pretty sure he was just really into Vin and the Fast and Furious movies," she said.

"Which would be fine I guess if he was naming a dog, not my style, but who cares? But this was his actual human child," she added.

Others suggested that perhaps the name was on the exotic side, and not a typical English name.

"Deizl does sound like it could be an obscure German surname (which Diesel is, [for what it's worth]), but it looks like /daɪ.zəl/ or /daɪ.zl/. That poor kid," one wrote.

The woman set the record straight, saying it wasn't inspired by the German language.

"I am completely certain that it’s not a reference to a German name," Flashlightbugs replied.
