Tragedy as child dies after ‘falling from upper floor flat’ – as police launch probe

The death is not currently being treated as suspicious but enquiries remain ongoing

A CHILD has died after falling from an upper-floor flat in south London.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Brixton on Friday following the horror on Hotspur Street.

Despite the best efforts of officers and paramedics, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The youngster's age has not been confirmed, but the child's family have been informed.

The death is not currently being treated as suspicious but enquiries remain ongoing, the Metropolitan Police said.

A force spokesperson said: "Police were called at 1623hrs on Friday, 24 May, to a child have fallen from the upper floor of a flat on Hotspur Street, Brixton.

"Officers attended along with LAS. Despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead. The child’s family have been informed.

"At this very early stage, there is nothing to indicate that the incident is suspicious, however enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

"Cordons are in place at the scene."

Florence Eshalomi, the Labour MP for Vauxhall, said: "Very sad to hear about the sad death of a young child who fell from a block of flats earlier this afternoon in Hotspur Street, SE11.

"My thoughts are with his family at this sad time."
