DIVING duo Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen were left in tears as they secured Team GB's first medal of Paris 2024 after finishing third in the women's synchronised 3m springboard.

During the last round - and with Australia set to win a medal - Smith slipped off the side of the board before launching into a dive.

While she completed the dive, the 31-year-old and her partner missed out on some crucial points due to a lack of synchronicity and scored 48.60.

They subsequently finished fifth, leaving the door open for Team GB to get bronze.

BBC Sport commentator Leon Taylor was left utterly stunned and said: "I'm about to pin the silver on the Australians and Anabelle lands with one foot on the side of the diving board.

"She just about managed to complete the dive. I have no idea where that's going to go with the judges.

"Oh my word, it's incredible that she even managed to complete the dive.

"She is distraught and understandably so."

China's Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani took the first gold of the 2024 Games with an overall score of 337.68.

It is the first Olympic medal for Great Britain in women's diving for 64 years.

Discussing the incredible achievement, Mew Jensen said: "Crazy, crazy. I mean, I don't think I can quite believe it right now. I’m super proud of Yaz, super proud of myself, super proud of the team.

"We've worked insanely hard, and we couldn’t have come away with a better outcome.

"The group of girls we have on this team are unmatched. I'm not worried about any of the girls. I think they will deliver over the next couple of days. I'm super excited for the rest of the team – we started the ball rolling, so let's keep it going."
