The culture secretary, Lucy Frazer, has hit back at the Premier League’s claims that the new independent football regulator risks damaging the competition, insisting that “well-run clubs will have nothing to fear” from the body.

Richard Masters, the Premier League’s chief executive, warned in The Times two weeks ago that the Football Governance Bill, which gets its second reading on Tuesday, will create “significant risks” of undermining the league’s global success.
