🌟 Days filled with insights at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW)! These two weeks have been incredibly enriching, especially with sessions like today's "Accelerating Anticipatory Action: Unlocking anticipation for more actors in more contexts," organized by H2H Network . It is even more remarkable that it was just one of several captivating sessions on Anticipatory Action (AA) held just today – and merely a glimpse of the many informative discussions throughout these weeks, such as the United Nations OCHA facilitated session “Mainstreaming AA in Humanitarian Planning”! Indeed, AA has taken the spotlight at the 2024 HNPW, being one of the nine Areas of Common Concern for inter-network collaboration. Today’s session delved into various dimensions of AA, addressing crucial questions ranging from locally adapted AA to its application in conflict settings. One major highlight was the discussion on ensuring inclusivity in early warning systems, overcoming barriers like literacy and language diversity. While examining AA from various angles, certain themes keep recurring, notably gaining the right understanding of AA to integrate it into the Humanitarian Programme Cycle, ensuring clarity on how it differs from preparedness and humanitarian response. It's also vital to acknowledge that AA might not be feasible in every context, underscoring the importance of locally led initiatives as well as assessing viability alongside a well-coordinated humanitarian response. Another recurring theme is the emphasis on evidence generation. The importance of concrete results and evidence-based approaches was consistently underscored, with the body of evidence growing, as exemplified by the valuable contributions from our colleagues in Somalia. As we collectively navigate the complexities of anticipatory humanitarian action, there's still time to join some of the upcoming sessions that promise further insights: 📅 May 8th (Wed): 07:00-8:30 (UTC): Linking Anticipatory Action to the DRR Agenda: Recent Advances in Risk Understanding and Financing 14:00-15:30 (UTC): Anticipatory Action and Disaster Risk Management: Impact, opportunities, and the way forward 📅 May 9th (Thu): 7:00-8:30 (UTC): Anticipatory Action: a crucial piece of the Disaster Risk Management puzzle? 📅 May 10 (Fri): 7:00-9:00 (UTC): Learning from Anticipatory Action in Tropical Cyclones: How early can we make decisions? Find the full list and session links 👉: https://lnkd.in/dGMzzcHx Let’s keep the conversation going and continue to learn and collaborate for a more resilient future! #HNPW #AnticipatoryAction #InvestInHumanity

Join our H2H Panel Discussion during the HNPW forum on Monday, 6 May! 🏗️Whether it is geographical, logistical, political, or security-related obstacles, local actors are indispensable responders in hard-to-reach areas. 🪑The torch of leadership at the H2H Board is being passed🔦 After five years of service and leadership, Heba Aly is stepping down as the Chairperson of the H2H Board, as she also moves on from her role as CEO of The New Humanitarian. Although we are sad to see Heba go, we are likewise delighted to announce she is handing over to Karin Maasel, CEO of Data Friendly Space (DFS). 🙏Please join us in expressing our deepest appreciation to Heba Aly for her time served and in extending a warm welcome to Karin Maasel!🎊 Read the full announcement here 👉🔗https://lnkd.in/g-BtYmU5 Under Heba’s tenure as Chair, the network has become an increasingly important platform to enhance the impact of H2H organizations, and in contexts such as Sudan, Syria, Haiti and Pakistan, H2H services have enabled more efficient, effective and accountable aid. Developments in the network have included the growth of the H2H Team, the professionalization of the network's structure, the diversification of the donor base, and the recruitment of a new Executive Director for H2H. Heba's strategic oversight, commitment and experience have played a crucial role in the evolution of the H2H Network. As we express our gratitude and extend our best wishes to Heba, we also welcome Karin Maasel as the next Chairperson. Karin brings a wealth of experience working with humanitarian organizations such as Save the Children and Finn Church Aid in the Horn of Africa, the Pacific and the Middle East over the past 15 years. Before joining Data Friendly Space, she served as the Head of Africa Department at the Estonian Centre for International Development. Kim Scriven, Executive Director of the H2H Network, said about the Chair of H2H Board transition: 🗨️"It’s been a pleasure working with Heba as Chair during my time as H2H Executive Director, and she was instrumental in getting me up to speed and moving in the role. I’m sad to see her go but excited to see what she does next! I’m equally excited to be working with Karin, whose energy and ideas will no doubt play a vital role in driving the next stage of H2H’s development.”
