A major road in Crewe by Leighton Hospital is set to fully reopen in mid-April, as part of the NWCP (North West Crewe Package) works for a new road and roundabout.

The eastern side of Smithy Lane has been partly closed from the hospital's entrance to Bradfield Road Roundabout since Monday 4 March.

This closure allows for the construction of the new Bob Brown Way, built off Smithy Lane, along with roundabout five of the overall project.

People travelling to the hospital are being diverted via Middlewich Road and Flowers Lane to the western side of Smithy Lane where it is still open.

The eastern side of Smithy Lane is expected to reopen on Friday 19 April.

Since 25 March, two-way traffic lights have been in place outside Leighton Hospital's main entrance on the part of Smithy Lane that remains open.

Access to the main hospital car park is still available from Middlewich Road and Smithy Lane, but under the control of the two-way signals.

The eastern side of Smithy Lane, connecting to Bradfield Road Roundabout, is expected to reopen on Friday 19 April (Ryan Parker).

The footpath access to Leighton Hospital is still being maintained throughout the works.

There is currently a temporary footway diversion along the east side of Smithy Lane until it reopens on April 19.
