ISAP Accreditation in Basra On 25 September seven ICS staff from Iraqi Correctional Service (ICS) Southern Region received accreditation as trainers in ISAP (International Standards Audit Programme) and recognised competencies to conduct training in Prison Leadership and Prisoner Classification.

EUJUST LEX-Iraq Penitentiary Expert, Alison Stables visited Basra Central Prison in Basra EUJUST LEX-Iraq Penitentiary Expert, Alison Stables, visited Basra Central Prison (BCP) in Basra where she met with Iraqi Correctional Service Director Haider Malik, formerly the Director of Al Maqil prison in Basra.

Penitentiary course on leadership in prisons On 23 October EUJUST LEX-Iraq closed a one-week penitentiary course on leadership in prisons, held in Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region. The course was attended by ten high-level prison officials including Director General Ahmed of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs – the prison service in Kurdistan – and six prison directors from Sulaymaniyah, Erbil and Dohuk.

Head of Mission László HUSZÁR

The European Union Integrated Rule of Law Mission for Iraq (EUJUST LEX-Iraq) is a civilian crisis management mission conducted under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). EUJUST LEX-Iraq is the EU's first integrated rule of law mission. Its mandate has been extended four times, after which the Council of the EU agreed that EUJUST LEX-Iraq would end on the 31 December 2013. Since October 2011, EUJUST LEX-Iraq’s Head of Mission is Brigadier General László HUSZÁR (Hungary). He succeeded Carl Törnell (Sweden), Francisco Díaz Alcantud (Spain) and Stephen White (UK).
