Description You will lead on all technical aspects (inc electrical designs and grid connection) of Aggreko Energy Services (AES) energy projects from initial design through to handover to operation, and you will prioritise safety throughout.

Detailed description Reporting to the Development Director you will be responsible for all technical deliverables, across all project stages, of the AES portfolio of energy projects. Your role will encompass design, technology appraisal and connection to customers electrical infrastructure and grid. You will develop technology standards and minimum functional requirements for AES. You will be supported by (and line-manage) a Grid Connections Manager.  Safety will be at the core of your work.

You will stay informed about industry trends, regulations and best practices and build a strong support network of colleagues and external experts.

Responsibilities

  • Produce project and electrical designs from concept through to issue-for-construction, ensuring each design is to Aggreko/industry standard, ESG policy and supports project finance requirements. Manage early-stage compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) (or equivalent) and Perform CDM Principal Designer role where required.
  • Support Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Independent Connection Provider (ICP) procurement activities and negotiations through the provision of minimum functional specifications, design information, technical appraisal and technical expertise. Manage technology provider relationships throughout construction and commissioning phases. Implement and enforce rigorous quality assurance processes and adopt policies to ensure Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT and SAT respectively) processes are optimally completed.
  • Formulate and implement strategies to identify and secure grid connections to support Behind-the-Meter (BtM) and Front-of-Meter (FoM) projects and manage the progress of grid connections to align with overall project needs. Ensure stage payments and design/construction milestones are complied with. Manage metering requirements, grid code compliance, commissioning and testing of new energy assets.
  • Maintain high quality and detailed knowledge of regulations and available technologies to identify candidate technology (type and supplier) for each development project. Build and maintain a network of technology providers, capability, offering and costs.
  • Support Project Finance and M&A activity by undertaking detailed diligence on technical (inc. grid) aspects of deals and inputting into technical reports and energy yield appraisals.
  • Produce and manage concise and accurate project reports, Technical Team budgets, project budgets, capital assumptions and project schedules (in collaboration with Programme Management Office Controller). 

Key performance indicators

  • Safety and ESG consideration demonstrably built into technical designs
  • Effective strategies in place to deliver new grid connections
  • Technical standards and minimum functional specifications in place for all development projects
  • Project designs produced to time to support development team colleagues
  • Strong network and knowledge of suppliers prevents technical matters delaying construction and commissioning of projects.

Location: Remote based, must be willing to travel in UK (notably London) and European trips as required

  • Extensive experience in technical management role at energy developer/operator.
  • Strong electrical design and engineering knowledge coupled with experience of the grid systems and connection processes.
  • Broad understanding of renewable technologies and design packages.
  • Experience across all project phases from initial design to commissioning.
  • A strong network of technology suppliers and expert consultants.
