The Mar1 cell wall regulatory protein localizes to intracellular and cell surface puncta in Cryptococcus neoformans.

Mar1 is a novel regulatory protein in Cryptococcus neoformans important for proper remodeling of the cell wall in response to the host environment. Fluorescent microscopy images demonstrate the GFP-Mar1 fusion protein localized to small punctate structures on endomembranes and at the fungal cell surface. Live cells were incubated overnight in rich medium and imaged using DeltaVision deconvolution fluorescent microscopy. Images are pseudo-colored to indicate brightness of staining from yellow to purple. Alspaugh et al.
