Cannes Film Festival 2024: the full line-up

Yorgos Lanthimos, David Cronenberg and Francis Ford Coppola roll out for France's premiere film jamboree.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… the day where two older people sat behind a little table on a stage and serve up the delectable morsels of world cinema that we’re all set to enjoy in the coming months. Film festivals have so far this year not exactly bathed themselves in glory, with issues of censorship and political suppression present at both Sundance and Berlin. But can Cannes take up the mantle and offer up a truly open and free festival, where filmmakers are able to present their work without fear of violent rebuttal?

We already know that George Miller’s new addition to his Mad Max saga, Furiosa, will be in attendance, and that Kevin Costner will be sidling into down with the first (three hour) segment of his Horizon opus. But elsewhere the line-up offers the usual high, high levels of anticipation and excitement, and alongside new films from Yorgos Lanthimos (Kinds of Kindness), Francis Ford Coppola (Megaplopolis), Leos Carax (C’est Pas Moi) and David Cronenberg (The Shrouds), we’re really excited to see Rungano Nyoni’s follow-up to I am Not a Witch (On Becoming a Guinea Fowl), Payal Kapadia’s follow-up to The Night of Knowing Nothing (All We Imagine as Light) and the new film by Portuguese maestro Miguel Gomes (Grand Tour).
