Celebrity Katie Holmes and Chris Klein Split Up The longtime couple end their relationship and call off their engagement By People Staff Published on March 3, 2005 05:00PM EST Hollywood couple Katie Holmes and Chris Klein have ended their five-year relationship and called off their engagement, PEOPLE has confirmed. Holmes, 26 who shot to fame on the WB teen drama Dawson’s Creek, and Klein, 25, who starred in American Pie, got engaged in December 2003. During the first three years of their relationship, the couple spent much of their time apart while Holmes was filming Dawson’s Creek on location in Wilmington, N.C. “We certainly don’t see each other as much as we’d like, but we try to use the time that we have to the best of our advantage,” Klein told PEOPLE in 2002. Holmes moved to Los Angeles where Klein also lives after the teen drama wrapped in 2003. There was no word on why the couple split. Holmes is next slated to appear on the big screen in Batman Begins, due in theaters June 17.
