People Editorial Guidelines Published on February 3, 2019 08:50PM EST While Game of Thrones fans still have a little more than two months to wait until the new season begins, they were given something to quench their thirst during Super Bowl LIII on Sunday. HBO and Budweiser released a commercial during the second quarter of the big game that featured a crossover between the Game of Thrones world and the beermaker’s popular “Dilly Dilly” advertisements. The commercial showed Budweiser’s character, Bud Knight, jousting against a mysterious opponent who is later revealed to be The Mountain, played by strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. But the GOT references don’t end there, as the Mountain walks over to Bud Knight after knocking him to the ground, and then squeezing his helmet with his powerful hands. To fans of the show, the act is (spoiler alert) reminiscent of what The Mountain did to Prince Oberyn Martell in season four of GOT. But that’s not the only major cameo in the ad — at the end, one of Daenerys’ dragons shows up and torches the King’s jousting grounds. The Mountain versus Bud Knight. HBO / Bud Light According to HBO, the commercial reunited more than 25 members of the show’s crew, who were directed by David Nutter — the man behind one of the most shocking episodes of the series, “Rains of Castamere,” otherwise known as “The Red Wedding.” Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also collaborated on the advertisement. So far, HBO hasn’t revealed much to GOT fans ahead of the show’s final season. In January, the company released a teaser that showed Jon Snow (Kit Harington) grappling with his true parentage as he passes a statue of Lyanna Stark, his birth mother, in the Winterfell catacombs. Super Bowl LIII featuring the Los Angeles Rams and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots is currently airing on CBS.
